 New Clay Aiken Album

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try, try and try again. That would be five tries. Clay Aiken has a new album coming out June 1st, but he has not seen the much in the way of album sales since his appearance on American Idol.

His fifth studio album is called “Tried and True.” It contains songs from the 50s and 60s that Clay grew up listening to. He revisits two songs he did when he was on “American Idol”: “Mack the Knife” and “Unchained Melody.” Sax player David Sanborn joins him for “What Kind of Fool Am I?” and Broadway star Linda Eder duets with Aiken on “Crying.” Clay will go on tour with Ruben Studdard beginning July 23rd in Asheville, North Carolina.

Hmmmmmm I just don’t understand this article. Clay’s first album went double platinum in the first week. ALL of his albums were in the top 5 of Billboard on their release. He is one of few that have had their first 3 albums debut at #1 in the Billboard charts. His Christmas CD broke records of everyone but Celine Dion.

With writing this article, are you trying to mean or did you just not do you homework??

Billboard just published their list of Idol sales and Clay is #4 in sales.

If I were you, I would re-write this article which is full of BIG mistakes. Most artists would be proud of selling more tha 6 million CD’s.

Check Billboard for the facts…….I didn’t make up this info.

thank you for mentioning Clay’s new album. You might want to check your facts though. He has been certified by the RIAA for selling SIX MILLION albums in the usa alone – close to TEN MILLION WORLWIDE. Check out his bio at http://www.deccarecods-us.com.

Wow Brian, I’m thinking you should go back and possibly get some facts straight. Clay has over 6 million in sales, just in the U.S. alone. That is without radio support. Has starred on Broadway in “Spamalot”, and wrote a best seller in “Learning To Sing”.

He has recently taped a PBS Special, for his up and coming CD “Tried & True”. The PBS Special will be aired in August.

Clay is very successful, and keeps going. I’ve heard snippets from these songs, and they are spectacular. You have the full orchestration, great production, and of course, THE VOICE… I cannot wait for June 1st to get my hands on this CD.

Thank you for mentioning Clay Aiken’s new CD being released June 1st but – as Clay has said – “You need a new Fact Checker”. ;)
Maybe your article should read – ” but he has not seen the much in the way of “radio play” since his appearance on American Idol.”, because Clay has been very successful with regards to sales in spite of no radio play. I don’t think going 6 platinum in the US is anything to sneeze about.

Yikes…….Who wrote this?? Somewhat unprofessional to be write this way.

Is this the norm for radio??

Well. What a generous offering of corrections. Thank you all. I will admit Clay did pretty well with his first album in sales, but in comparison, it’s still far behind what Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson did. More to the point, however, Clay’s last two efforts, including a “greatest hits” collection have failed by record industry standards. Will this new album be a turning point or has Clay’s time passed? That’s all I was wondering. Oh, and by the way, I have supported Clay’s albums with airplay on Mix 96. Go Clay!

His “Greatest Hits” was not an album he released. Sony put that together long after he had left them. If you really want to check the facts, all of the “Greatest Hits” cd that were release with that one sold about the same as Clay’s, most of them less. There was no advertising for any of them. They were just catalog releases.

Thanks for supporting Clay’s albums with airplay. you are one of the very few who has. Clay’s sales have suffered due to a dire lack of airplay and horrible public relations while he was with RCA.. If no one hears the music they don’t know the album is out there. Clay still has many supporters and continues to add new fans. I’m looking forward to seeing him and Ruben in concert.

Thanks for your post about Clay’s new CD. Your statement that he has not seen much in the way of album sales is not true. at. Below is a blurb from Decca’s latest Clay bio. He is a top seller from AI.

After winning over millions of viewers with his phenomenal voice and down-home charm, Aiken parlayed his success into full-fledged stardom. He has sold more than six million copies worldwide of his four albums: the double-platinum Measure of A Man (featuring the hits “Invisible” and “This is the Night”), 2004’s platinum holiday CD Merry Christmas With Love, 2006’s gold-certified A Thousand Different Ways, and 2008’s On My Way Here — all of which debuted in the Top 5 on the Billboard chart.

Thanks for your article. I see you’ve been given some other facts, and good for you for accepting the corrections. I always felt so badly for Clay as RCA gave little or no promo for OMWH, an album of originals. Then the “greatest hits” was probably an attempt by RCA to squeeze a few more $$$ out before they parted ways. I’m happy to see Decca is actually working for Clay and supporting him.
Anyhoo, keep up the good work!!

Thank you for this article about Clay’s new CD, Tried and True! It is just great to see Clay getting the proper promo he deserves from Decca that he was never given by RCA and others.

Please check your facts. Clay’s first album went double platinum after the first week of sales. And that was only the beginning, he’s been very successful since AI.

I just want to add this:Your article says: “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try” that’s absolutely wrong. Clay succeeded since he stepped on AI. If you were aware he did great with his first album then I don’t understand why you used those words. His tours have always been a big success too. How many Idols have been able to sell out arenas when they are just out from the competition? Clay was also very successful on Broadway, he got only excellent reviews and sales went up by the millions when he was on, then plummeted when he left.

Looking forward to his 5th, not mention, 6th, 7th,and 8th. Clay Aiken is here to stay and I’m excited about the the new CD “Tried and True” based on the snippets I have heard.

“Oh, and by the way, I have supported Clay’s albums with airplay on Mix 96. Go Clay!”

Radio for the most part boycotted everything by Clay. His total spins in 7 years is 195,000 compared to Kelly of over 4,260,000. Do you think that might have something to do with his sales? Blame his record label for not supporting him. Don’t blame Clay. His sales are incredible considering. You’re in the radio business. You know how it works.

Bryan, sweetheart, methinks you’ve got a chip on your shoulder. Just sayin’ babe.

Well, I was going to comment about the correlation between radio and label $upport and sales figures, but “Stu” said it for me. Regardless, Clay has done quite well. There are artists who would kill for his kind of numbers….all achieved WITHOUT any radio-play to speak of.

Why don’t you try being fair. Question! did Clay get the promotion that Kelly, and Carrie have gotton? There was barely no promotion for “On My Way Here” which is so sad this is a fabulos cd. No radio play, and I could go on and on. Give me a break will you Clay will be fine.
